Muffin Pans are not just for Cupcakes and Muffins!

As with everything in my Kitchen, I subscribe to the Zero Waste policy. I have expanded that to mean no waste with food, time, OR space.  And since I live in an apartment, space is at a premium. So when I start thinking about a new tool or appliance, I look at all the ways I can use that piece of equipment for something BESIDES its intended use.

Muffins are really popular with my family. But all hail to advertising because my guys have decided that the different SIZES are important too….lol I cannot get away with just regular-sized muffins. We have muffins for snacks, muffins for dessert, and muffins for on-the-go quick breakfasts. Yes, you guessed it—I have muffin pans in all different sizes.

It all started innocently enough. I wanted a healthy muffin I could eat in the morning with my coffee, so I bought 2 regular 6-cup muffin pans after researching and finding that the ones without the Teflon coating were best. Then when hubby was not eating the wonderful packets of oatmeal I was making him before work every day because at 4 am it was just too much to heat up water, I proposed muffins. That led to a grab-n-go type that facilitated the “Texas-sized” muffin pans……sigh. Then my son brought home some “snack muffins” with, of course, the recipe. Now Mom is out buying the mini muffin pans. Ouy !!!

So, in an effort to make my muffin pans work for my last frugal nerve, I started looking at OTHER ways to use them. I realized these little gems were PERFECT for individualized, freezable, on-the-go foods of every kind from Appetizers to Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner entrees to Side dishes to—-well you name it !!! In fact, there are whole cookbooks devoted to the subject! Below are just some of the recipes and uses I have found for my muffin pans.

What great information. Well done. Going to be making some of these recipes, for sure. I am teaching kids cooking camps right now. Thinking the kids will like to make some of these, too.

My son LOVES the novelty (and the taste) of these little bites of deliciousness. I find kids love to make these because they are little creation they can customize to their liking. Experimentation is easy when it is in bite-sized pieces…lol
